The Back Story - Back in 2007, I left the comfort that goes with working for a large corporate machine to run a technology Start-up. I had never run a business and had no formal sales training, only a healthy naivety, an enquiring mind and a hunger to succeed.
Did I succeed? - It's questionable. If staying in business and selling the company to an industry competitor 7 years later is success then I did succeed. However, given the hustle, sweat, some tears, burn out and financial return generated from this adventure then I would see it as a failure in the financial sense but one hell of a valuable education in launching and building a Start-up.
The After Story - I have spent the past 3 years working with, advising and coaching other Start-ups, medium sized and fast growing businesses to grow their sales. I am fortunate in that all have been able to benefit from my mistakes, what I would have done differently and the learnings across my client base and partners. While I am a lot wiser now than I was 10 years ago, I still have a burning desire to learn from others, leverage other success stories, growth hacking tactics and embrace the power of emerging sales & marketing innovations. The bottom line - I will always be learning!
